So much fun sitting down with our founder and creative director to talk about designing comfortable luxury heels, traveling in style, and the thoughtful details that go into every pair. From go-to shoes and travel favorites to Italian craftsmanship and comfort-driven design, this Q&A offers a closer look at how Elizée designs come to life.
Founder Q&A
Hi, I’m Erika Carrero, founder and creative director of Elizée.
What inspired you to start Elizée?
I was a finance executive and traveled constantly for work, but I could never find heels that could get me through a full day. Everywhere I looked, the shoes were beautiful, but they were so uncomfortable—I couldn’t wear them for more than 20 minutes. So I decided to create my own.
What design detail do you obsess over the most?
The forefoot. That’s where you feel the most pressure. If the pattern isn’t right, that’s when shoes start to hurt. I spend a lot of time making sure that area is carefully cut and shaped so it truly protects your foot.
Where do you go when you need fresh inspiration?
Italy. I go every year and always come back inspired. I watch how women dress and move through the city. I pay attention to small design details you see in everyday life. I also spend time in the factories and tanneries, reviewing new leathers and finishes. Those moments always find their way into my designs.
What’s your go-to shoe?
My go-to is the Adriana. It gives me height and edge, but I still feel stable and supported.
If you could only pick one pair of heels for a trip, which would it be?
The Ametista. It’s a neutral with personality, especially with the lace detail. I style it with denim and dresses in every color, so it always makes it into my suitcase.
What’s one shoe every woman should have in her closet?
A classic nude or black pump, or a block heel—something versatile, stable, and easy to dress up or down.
